The Draftery is a curated drawing archive with multiple platforms. We promote graphic works by lesser known architects, artists, students, and other practitioners. It is a place for the analysis and presentation of architectural drawings—a place to learn how each practitioner’s personal reasoning develops a distinct process. Everything we do is filtered through the lens of architectural discourse. Our mission is to provide a limited context and pointed commentary on the ways in which drawings engage the world through their making—to dispel the belief that drawing is dead.

Architectural drawings—from speculative renderings to construction documents—provide visible and tangible records of the ways in which we intervene with the world through the things we construct. We believe that drawings often require the same amount of time and attention to create as they do to read; that good drawings foster a careful reflection of their effects on the world.

We look for work that excites us and place an emphasis on those that are highly visual—those made by people who are devoted to their discipline and practice a high degree of craftsmanship. We focus on drawings that do more than is commonly expected and aren’t limited by the conventions of architectural representation. We like drawings that challenge the status quo.

We take pride in our curatorial practice and are appreciative of the amount of effort our contributors have put in making their work. Although we love that the internet has eased sharing and made so much work accessible, we still believe in giving credit where credit is due and ask all websites and blogs that refer to drawings found in our archive to include the proper credits and links.
